The VA will provide only one so I am considering purchasing the manual one so if we ever need more, then we can get the electric one provided later. The therapist showed us videos so I have not seen either in real life. Using the slings with the electric one seem like such a hassle.
I thought maybe Medicare would help with the manual but so far I have not gotten a clear answer but it appears to be no they won't. Has anyone gotten a manual Sit-to-Stand with Medicare helping pay?

I know people here have mentioned using them but I'm not sure what kind, searching the forum might help. But I think you should try to find someone that can give you a demo before you purchase anything, perhaps a local supplier, nursing home or VA hospital can help. I know that when I was caregiving there was a lot of medical equipment that seemed like a good idea but ultimately wasn't helpful.

We tried a mechanical sit to stand thing. It was a spring loaded seat cushion that compressed the spring when you sat on it, then helps push you up when you stand. Problem is it's bulky and raises the seated seat height a few inches. It didn't catch on.

We then picked out a Lazy-Boy powered recliner on sale. We didn't get heat or massage in the chair, just a basic unit. I'm thinking it was in the $500 range on sale. It does a decent job with standing assistance and it's a darn good recliner that can be used for sleeping in a more upright position.
